Scarborough & Ryedale Astronomical Society

Scarborough & Ryedale Astronomical Society was established in 1976, originally under the name Scarborough & District Astronomical Society.

The society runs a number of public stargazing events through autumn and winter months as well as a number of talks by guest speakers and other events for the members of the society throughout the year.

The society has 2 observatories in Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire that are used by society members and is also the site of public observing sessions - a site that was awarded UK Dark Sky Discovery Status in Jan 2013. In 2003, Sir Patrick Moore opened the original observatories at this site.

The society also host / organise the annual Starfest star camp each August that is attended by astronomers from across the UK.
