Digital Camera

A digital camera is the first choice of many amateur astronomers wishing to get into astrophotography, with Canon and Nikon in high demand.

In recent years the popularity of digital astrophotography has increased immensely amongst photographers and amateur astronomers alike. Extremely good images of the night sky can be taken with even the most basic of cameras on the market, although the dslr has so many advantages, as it is so versatile.

A major plus is that it's possible for digital images to be brightened and altered in a computer to modify color and boost the contrast, enabling some truly amazing images.

For the more serious astronomer there is an extensive range of commercial equipment aimed toward both basic and highly developed astrophotography.
