Orion SkyQuest XT8

by Howard

I purchased the Orion SkyQuest XT8 as a birthday present for my youngest son. Not being an expert on telescopes I took some considerable time looking at the various options that were within my price range.

Being a real novice it probably took me a lot longer than most to put together, but assembly was fairly easy even for me, mounting the tube to the base was really simple.

Although it is a fairly bulky scope to move around I am working on the most practical way to carry it outside to the backyard. My son thinks it is really cool and is really impressed by the amazing images of the Moon and Saturn and it's rings.

The images of the Moon are particularly impressive. You can see shadows of individual craters, and the clarity is much better than I thought they would be.

We are both in agreement that the scope is a very practical and functional scope that delivers great images.
